Commercial Building Insulation in East Tennessee
Metal buildings, pole barns, warehouses and offices — each one fails differently.
When a commercial building is properly insulated, it helps maintain the building and give it a longer lifespan. It also helps to protect the people that are working or coming inside of the building to do their jobs and conduct business. Proper insulation installation in the building strengthens the building's structural integrity and reduces strain on HVAC systems.
Commercial Buildings Do Not All Fail the Same Way
The phrase "commercial building insulation" covers structures with almost nothing in common, and the reason each one needs insulating is different. Before quoting anything we establish which problem we are actually solving, because the wrong diagnosis produces an expensive job that changes nothing.
- Metal buildings and steel-frame shops. The complaint is nearly always condensation, not temperature. Steel panels drop below the dew point and water forms on the inside and drips onto whatever is below. Foam bonded directly to the underside of the panel removes the cold surface, and the dripping stops. Adding a blanket without sealing the panel can make it worse by hiding the water.
- Pole barns and agricultural buildings. Large volume, intermittent heating, and often equipment or livestock inside. These are usually insulated at the roof plane rather than throughout, and the specification depends heavily on whether the building is heated at all.
- Warehouses and distribution space. High ceilings mean stratification: the heat sits at the roof and the floor stays cold. Sealing the roof plane and the big air leaks around dock doors does more here than adding R-value to the walls.
- Offices and retail units. Comfort complaints and HVAC run-time are the drivers. The work is usually at the roof deck and the perimeter, scheduled out of hours.
- New commercial construction. Insulated while the structure is open, to the specification in the drawings, coordinated with the other trades on site.
If you are not sure which of those describes your building, that is what the site visit is for. We look at the structure, ask what it is used for and when it is heated, and quote against the actual failure mode. Our contractors page explains how we work and what any written estimate should tell you.
Commercial Spray Foam Insulation
Commercial spray foam insulation has proven to be one of the best insulations for commercial buildings. When a building, especially a metal one, is not insulated properly, it has a tendency to sweat. This creates moisture on the inside of the building and can create mold.
If there are any cracks or holes left in the structure from when it was put together, there can be things such as allergens, such as dust and pollens, that get inside and create an unhealthy air quality inside of your building. With the use of spray foam, once it is sprayed, it forms a barrier and seals the roof area keeping the moisture and the allergens out of your building. This also helps to make the building more heat regulated. There are two different types of foam spray.
The open cell is made with cells inside that are open. This makes the spray foam softer and more flexible.
The open cell works best on interior walls and small or unusually shaped spaces. The open cell does not offer as much insulation value but works well in helping to soundproof your structure.
The closed cell has the cells in its structure that are closed, such as completely closed bubbles. This makes the foam insulation more rigid and stiff.
This type of cell structure creates a barrier to keep out moisture. It works well on the outside walls and the roof areas. It does not expand as much as the open cells but offers a quality insulation value.
Many times, as professional commercial insulation contractors in Eastern Tennessee, we will use both types of insulation. This helps to make sure that all of the areas are well insulated. Each job is handled on an individual basis and our trained technicians will know what techniques will need to be used to offer the best insulation job.
Insulating Your Commercial Building in Eastern Tennessee
When you have hired your commercial insulation contractor in Eastern Tennessee, we will come into your commercial building with our equipment and be ready to start to work. The advantages are way too many to mention, but many times commercial buildings have an array of pipes and vents that run up near the ceiling.
With the liquid that comes out of the gun and expands, it makes it easy for us to spray and seal the areas around the pipes and vents. This will then expand, creating a barrier to keep out any moisture, heat or cold air, or allergens that could come in around these areas. If you have old vents that are no longer in use, then we can seal them off completely with the spray foam insulation, protecting you with a more secure seal.
Below are just a few more benefits of selecting this technique to totally insulate your commercial building.
Why Use Spray Foam Insulation for Commercial Buildings
- Reduces heating and cooling bills
- Forms a moisture barrier
- Does not feed the mold growth
- Helps with soundproofing your building
- Lasts longer than many other insulations
- Offers the ability to seal even small holes
- Adheres to many different materials
- Helps to strengthen your building
Spray foam insulation has even been selected in a go green project to make a home so well insulated that they are working on a zero-energy project. This is quite an accomplishment and says a lot for the spray foam insulation industry.
This selection would not have been made if it were not for the quality of this product, the best to be used in their insulation project. It also proves that this product is good for the environment and does not cause harm to our planet, or it would not have been selected.
